Cacti & Strawberries

I don’t actually have anything interesting or super profound to go along with these photos - I just really love how this photoshoot turned out. You know how sometimes you put an outfit together and then a whole concept comes into your head? First came the dress (thank you, Madewell sale), then I saw the location on Instagram, and the bag brought it all together.

I’d been loving the straw/woven bag trend, but everything I found was over $50 or was the same bag 25 other people had. Most of those bags also have brown accents and I never wear brown, so I was hoping to find one with black details. I turned to Poshmark and found this awesome bag, originally from the Jason Wu for Target collection, for $10! It’s a great size and bigger than it looks, so I can fit a lot in it. It also has a longer detachable strap, so I can wear it on my shoulder or take the strap off and tote it around almost like a little vintage lunchbox.

In addition to Poshmark, there are lots of cute straw bags on Etsy and Depop, so I suggest looking there for something more unique and affordable than all the popular ones.

My lovely friend Chloé shot all of these photos and we took them at the Arizona Cactus Garden on the Stanford University campus. It was so pretty! I developed an obsession with cacti a few years ago when I visited a friend in Arizona and it’s still going strong.

My main inspiration for these photos was one of my favorite bloggers, Courtney at Pretty Little Fawn. I love her dreamy style and all the poses she does that don’t involve looking directly at the camera, because I still feel awkward when I do that!
