Tan France is My Style Icon

I saw this shirt at my favorite local thrift store and immediately knew I had to have it because of who it reminds me of: Tan France from Queer Eye and Hayley Kiyoko. It was the perfect Pride Month thrift find - and it was only $9! NINE dollars.

I look serious because I'm trying to look like Tan. I think he does it better. All photos in this post are by my wonderful sister Julia.

Queer Eye is my (and everyone and their mother’s) obsession right now. I’ve always loved a good makeover show, like “What Not To Wear,” but I think what sets Queer Eye apart is the vulnerability for both the subject and the hosts. The Queer Eye guys are so open and loving, and they make an effort to form true connections with the subjects, who they call “heroes.”

The Fab 5 also doesn’t rip the subject’s current life apart. Everything they say is constructive criticism that comes from a place of love and kindness, not just “wow your closet is ugly.” They also don’t judge - being set in Georgia, they definitely have subjects that are conservative and haven’t met many gay people before. A few of the episodes have an element of religion and none of the guys are afraid to dig deep and discuss issues that might be uncomfortable.

I’m so happy that season 2 came out so quickly after season 1 (they were filmed back to back) and I hope season 3 comes soon and is longer than 8 episodes! I was too young to be aware of the original show when it aired, but now I will definitely go back and watch it.

This thrift score top reminded me of Tan’s shirts immediately and I had to have it. Tan is my favorite of the Fab 5 by a close margin (it’s hard not to love them all) and I think his style is incredible. I paired the shirt with a pair of olive green pants and my favorite silver slip-on mules, which I literally wear every day. Hawaiian shirts are pretty trendy right now, so I linked a few below! You can actually find similar Gloria Vanderbilt shirts for under $20 on Ebay, Etsy and Poshmark.
