Trader Joe's Skincare: What I've Tried
Cruelty-free beauty and skincare is now available at every price point, which is amazing, because it makes it more accessible. When I decided to go full cruelty-free with my beauty, skincare and other body products, I was pleasantly surprised to find that most of my favorite brands were already cruelty-free. Among those favorite skincare brands? Trader Joe’s!
Also my favorite grocery store, Trader Joe’s always has fun branding and affordable items, from snacks to face wash. I’ve been buying my favorite moisturizer (first product listed below) from TJs since I was a tween and it was the only skincare I actually used, so when I found out it was cruelty-free, I picked up a ton of new products to try. I love when I can get a new face mask and my favorite sweet potato crackers in the same place.
[Note: I couldn’t find the official announcement on the TJs website that they are cruelty-free, but it is on their product bottles and confirmed by both Cruelty Free Kitty and Logical Harmony, two of my most trusted ethical beauty sources.]
Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion - I’ve been using this since middle school. It’s fragrance-free, has SPF 15 and is full of vitamin A, C, and E, which are all great for sun protection and anti-aging. This is my OG and I will use it until the day I die. Promise.
Hyaluronic Acid Moisture Serum - Hyaluronic acid is amazing for your skin and I had a favorite moisturizer with it, but that moisturizer is sadly not cruelty-free, so I stopped using it. I was browsing the TJs skincare section, saw this bottle, and thought, “Yes! I’ve been needing a new hyaluronic acid product.” I took it home and fell in love. I usually layer this under the Enrich moisturizer, because while the serum is awesome, it’s pretty thin and not sufficient for the amount of moisture my skin needs during the winter. Once spring comes around though, I might be able to use it on its own at night.
Micellar Cleanser & Makeup Remover Towelettes - I like these and they’re super cleansing, definitely more than some wipes I’ve used. These towelettes are also very soft on the skin and 100% natural fiber. However, there are other wipes out there I like better. I also don’t use makeup wipes very much anymore because I prefer to use micellar water and reusable cotton rounds. In a pinch, these are a great product to use and I’ll probably grab some next time I travel, because they’re easy to pack.
Rich Hydrating Face Sheet Mask - I’ll be honest, I’m still trying to figure out how effective sheet masks are. One thing I do love about them is rubbing the leftover serum into my skin, especially with this mask, because it has great ingredients. The sheet is made of unbleached cotton and the mask has hyaluronic acid and honey, which are both super moisturizing, along with chamomile extract, rosehip and camellia oils, natural cucumber fragrance, and more. Oh, and each mask is $1.99, which is a great price.
Facial Cleansing Oil - This isn’t a life-changing cleanser, but it’s a good one. I wanted to try an oil cleanser for change of pace, so I bought this one and I use it about once a week.
100% Australian Tea Tree Oil - Tea Tree is known to be helpful with dry skin and blemishes, due to being an antibacterial. I love to put tea tree on pimples to help them heal, and I also use it when I get particularly dry patches on my skin. I like this one from TJ’s because it’s just pure tea tree oil, but the only downside to that is that you have to dilute it with water or jojoba oil before use - never put a pure essential oil directly on your skin!
Bonus: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. This is not technically in the beauty section, but you can use it for a lot of beauty-related things (33 according to Allure), including shaving your legs or as a hair mask. Coconut oil is one of the best products ever!
